On 6 May 2026 the European Commission adopted the first ever EU Anti-Poverty Strategy, a Communication on strengthening the European Child Guarantee and a proposal for a Council recommendation on fighting housing exclusion.

The EU Anti-Poverty Strategy sets a clear path toward reaching the EU target laid out in the European Pillar of Social Rights Action Plan of reducing the number of people at risk of poverty and social exclusion by at least 15 million by 2030, as well as helping eradicate poverty by 2050.

The goal is to support Europeans to find affordable places to live, work, and raise their families, without being anxious about their tomorrow. We have also put forward the European affordable housing plan to make housing more affordable, more sustainable, and of better quality.
