“When I usually come to Bulgaria, I do not come empty handed. I try helping as much as I can. As long as I am alive and well, the work continues. I like to help out when things get hard and complicated; to get the hang of it, as the saying goes” the Canadian businessman of Bulgarian origin and donor Ignat Kanev (an honorary member of the Bulgarian Industrial Association) said in Ruse.

The entrepreneur met with the academic community of the Ruse University today. The university reported that Kanev was awarded with the "Crystal Sign" of the institution of higher education with special gratitude for all he did for the young people at the university and the city.

He also received a book-album "Chronicle of Patriotism", which includes photos of important moments in the life of the University of Ruse and the Kanev Center – starting from the first meeting of Ignat Kanev with the Rector of the University of Ruse, Art. Prof. Hristo Beloev in October 2012 til today.

The book-biography of Ignat Kanev "Life in the Rise" was also presented. It describes his life as a businessman, but at the same time illustrates a historical picture of life in Europe and the world.

“Life on the Rise or Becoming Someone” tells the story of Ignat Kanev, from the construction of the first one-storey house in 1952, to huge skyscrapers, golf courses, buildings of social, and economic importance, and the considerable charitable financial support of many noble causes.

"I cannot describe my feelings, but if I cry now, I will cry all night. What started in 2012 will not stop today," Kanev, who is a Doctor Honoris Causa of the University of Ruse, told the academic community .

Due to the entrepeneurs’ visit in the region, a museum exhibition "Ignat Kanev" will be opened in his native village Gorno Albanovo. It includes a series of posters with rich visual materials that tell the story of a Bulgarian boy who followed his fate only at the age of 14 to become one of Canada's most successful businessmen and philanthropists.

The digital segment shows a collection of first-person stories by Ignat Kanev and his family, audiovisual and print media publications from Bulgaria and Canada, archival photographs and documents.

A day earlier, Ignat Kanev attended the opening of the new department of hemodialysis at the University Hospital in Ruse. The funds for its construction were donated personally by him.

94-year-old Ignat Kanev has provided 2 million BGN so far.

"To work, take care of and help our neighbor. Therefore, the Lord has brought me over and over again back to my origins land and in order to help with whatever I can, and this is not the first time, it will not be the last time. Bulgaria has always respected me and I have always been welcome in this country, although I have made mistakes when I was supposed to be here, I was not; but on the other hand, I think, that I have paid for my sins, "said Ignat Kanev.
