BULGARIANS ARE AMONG EU NATIONS WITH LOWEST KNOWLEDGE OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES, EUROSTAT DATA SHOWS
Bulgarians appear to be a nation where studying and speaking a foreign language is at a very low level EU-wide, according to a Eurostat survey on the rends in the study of foreign languages among EU countries, the Bulgarian National Radio reported yesterday.
In the group of working-age Bulgarians aged 25-64 - only 39% gave a positive response that they use at least one foreign language at an EU average of 66% for this indicator.
Lowest interest in the study and use of foreign languages in the EU has been registered in Hungary - only 37% of the working-age Hungarians speak at least one foreign language.
In the published Eurostat data on the language skills of Bulgarian students, Bulgaria occupies a relatively forward position with its 79% of adolescents who study the most popular language English.
