Average unemployment in Bulgaria in December has reached 9.24% from those in employment age, according to data from the Employment Agency, released Tuesday.

Unemployment in the country is up for the second month in a row in December, but the increase is lower, compared to December, 2009.

Nearly 34 000 Bulgarians have registered themselves as unemployed during the last month of 2010 to reach 342 419 total. Among those 34 000, the most layoffs were in the retail sector. The number of unemployed in construction, industry, and trade is up due to the seasonal factor.

Meanwhile, 7 000 unemployed started work in December, 2010. There have been 5 549 new job openings, which were down for the third month in a row; 1 993 fewer, compared to November. Most new jobs are in the industry, the State administration, in hotels and restaurants.
