The University of National and World Economy (UNWE) is the oldest, most prestigious and largest business university in Bulgaria and Southeast Europe with a nearly 100-year history.
The efforts of the academic leadership are directed towards preparing the future elite of Bulgaria. The university aims in establishing a higher educational and research space as an integral part of the European values. It is a place, where young people are able and want to receive a modern education.
The UNWE received the highest score from the National Agency for Assessment and Accreditation for the second time since 2006 in 2012.
There are eight faculties in the UNWE:
General Economics, Financial Accounting, Management and Administration, Business Faculty, Economics of Infrastructure, International Economics and Politics, Law, Applied Informatics and Statistics.
Postgraduate Studies Institute (with a facultative training center and a foreign language school); the Institute of Economics and Policies; the Institute of Creative Industries and Business; the Institute of Entrepreneurship; the Center for Distance Learning (with regional centers in Haskovo and Plovdiv); the University Center for Intellectual Property, the Interuniversity Center for Career Development and etc.
The UNWE participated in over 110 research projects in 2016, among which 103 university studies, 4 national ones, which were funded by the Science Fund of the Ministry of Education and Science, and 3 international ones, funded by the EU. There were 25 university scientific events, 14 of which were international.
The university has a quality management system for training, certified by Intertek, in accordance to the international standard ISO 9001:2008.
UNWE has high competitive positions. Traditionally, the university has the highest number of candidates and the highest rate of graduates among all of the national universities.
UNWE is the largest Bulgarian university with 21 535 students, who study in regular and distant programs and can chose between 43 bachelors’ and 108 masters’ curricula. Nearly 500 Bulgarian and foreign PhD students are participating in 38 doctoral programs.
Since its establishment in the 1920s, UNWE professors and graduates have become prominent scientists, state officials, prime ministers, lawmakers, politicians, ambassadors, representatives of international organizations, mayors, businessmen, bankers and others. Six of the Bulgarian Prime Ministers are among the UNWE alumni.
