At an information event in Dobrich on 10 September, organized by the Ministry of Finance, officials, business representatives and social partners discussed the benefits and challenges of the transition. “Joining the eurozone is not a solution to all problems. It is an opportunity, not a promise of prosperity. It depends on each of us and on our joint efforts,” said Stanislav Popdonchev, Deputy Chairman of the Bulgarian Industrial Association. He highlighted benefits such as lower currency and investment risks, easier access to financing, improved credit ratings and higher incomes.

Ministers of agriculture, tourism, and social security also voiced support, stressing that the euro will improve Bulgaria’s competitiveness, boost trade, and strengthen the country’s image as a stable EU partner. Experts presented practical steps for the changeover, confirming that from 1 January 2026 payments will be possible in both leva and euros, and from 1 February only in euros. Authorities assured that all systems are being prepared and that citizens will receive clear and timely information throughout the process.
