The 580th plenary session of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) takes place on 12 and 13 July 2023, in Brussels. Mariya Mincheva - vice-president of BIA and member of Group 1 Employers of the EESC - also participated in the work of the plenary session.

Within the framework of the forum, a debate was held on the future role of civil society in the EU enlargement process, with the participation of Dorin Recean - Prime Minister of Moldova, Olivér Várhelyi - Secretary General of the Council for Regional Cooperation, and representatives of civil society organizations from the candidate countries. The discussion was preceded by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the EESC and the Regional Cooperation Council (on 12 July 2023).

The forum program also included a discussion on the European Strategy for the Elderly, with the participation of Dubravka Šuica - Vice-President of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU for Democracy and Demography, and Dr. Heidrun Mollenkopf - President of AGE Platform Europe.

Among the opinions adopted by the EESC are those related to the European Green Deal, critical raw materials and the efficient use of water - topics that are of particular interest to business:

  1. Green Deal Industrial Plan: Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council establishing a framework of measures to strengthen the European ecosystem for the production of products in the field of net zero emission technologies (Net Zero Industry Legislation)
  2. Legislation on critical raw materials: Proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council establishing a framework for ensuring secure and sustainable supplies of critical raw materials and amending Regulations (EU) No 168/2013, (EU) 2018 /858, 2018/1724 and (EU) 2019/1020.
