For two days, on 31 March and 1 April, 99 high school students and their teachers from across Europe will meet online to find solutions and strategies against misinformation and fakenews.
"Your Europe, your opinion!" is the annual event for young people of the European Economic and Social Committee of the European Union. Schools from all 27 EU Member States, the 5 EU candidate countries and a Brussels-based European school have been invited to apply. Bulgaria will be represented by the Vocational Forestry High School "Nikola Vaptsarov" Bansko.
The meeting is held entirely in English. The team of the Forestry High School is headed by Gergana Stoimenova and Elena Hadjipopova and the students Victoria Todorova and Raya Dimitrova from 12th grade and Ibrahim Mustafa from 11th grade.
The high school's relations with the European institutions are extremely active. Katerina Choleva and Borislava Chakarova are junior ambassadors of the European Parliament to the school under the program for schools ambassadors of the EP. Recently the school was equipped with STEM office.
One of the first discussions in the cabinet was about the benefits for young people of being aware of their rights and obligations as European citizens, how to distinguish real news from fake ones. The presentation on the topic to the students was made by the member of the European Economic and Social Committee Maria Mincheva – Vice President of the Bulgarian Industrial Association.
