The Swiss company Nestle has launched a new Smarties production line at its factory in Sofia. The new investment of the company in Bulgaria amounts to about BGN 19 million and will create 70 new jobs. The new candies are intended for the local market and for 10 European countries.
“We are honored to open the curtain on you for the new production of Smarties® - the second international brand to be produced in Bulgaria. This raises the standards of production and puts the economy of our country on another level. The latest investment for Smarties® of BGN 19 000 000 and the creation of 75 new jobs at a time of global crisis, when businesses are disappearing and people are losing their jobs, is gaining even more importance as a combined impact on the economy and the labor market”, said Petar Stoilov, CEO of Nestle Bulgaria.
The Minister of Economy Vezieva congratulated the company’s management that in times of pandemic and insecurity they continue to invest in Bulgaria and provide employment for more and more people. The Ministry of Economy will support the company’s project with an investment certificate. “We encourage just such investors in high value-added and export-oriented industries.”
For its 27-year history, Nestle has built its image as a strategic investor in Bulgaria with an average annual investment of BGN 10 million in production facilities, labor and infrastructure. In 2020, the company was awarded the title of “Investor of the Year”. With the new BGN 19 million investment, Nestle Bulgaria clearly shows its intention to strengthen this position.
