The Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) will introduce significant requirements for manufacturers. It expands the scope of the existing Ecodesign Directive and aims to encourage producers to improve the energy performance and environmental sustainability of the products they place on the market.

Furniture is among the first product groups to fall under the new regulation. These products will have to be energy-efficient, long-lasting, reliable, durable, repairable, recyclable, and much more. Companies in the sector are expected to face additional administrative burdens and costs. The relevant delegated and implementing acts are still being drafted and must be completed by January 2026.
