12 INDUSTRY ORGANIZATIONS WITH A NEGATIVE OPINION ON THE DRAFT LAW ON THE SUPPLY CHAIN OF AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS AND FOOD
12 industry organizations issued a joint statement addressed to Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov on the draft Law on the Supply Chain of Agricultural Products and Food.
The statement notes that the proposed bill does not comply with European Union law and may lead to serious negative legal and economic consequences for Bulgaria.
The signatories to the statement support the idea of seeking ways to support and strengthen the market position of agricultural producers, but this should be in the direction of creating incentives for cooperation and improving protection from unfair trade practices, and not through crisis measures that would threaten the functioning of supply chains and food security.
The statement suggests conducting a thorough analysis, including an impact assessment of all possible means. Any measures identified should first be discussed in the National Food Council and in dialogue with agricultural producers and other participants in the supply chain, before proceeding with a specific text that cannot achieve the promised goals, but risks destroying the market and endangering the supply of food products to consumers.
