URGENT MEASURES TO IMPROVE THE INNOVATION ENVIRONMENT IN BULGARIA
The main focus of economic policy in the recovery period caused by the coronavirus crisis should aim at promoting innovation to increase the competitiveness of the Bulgarian economy and its transformation into an economy based on knowledge and intelligent growth.
Providing a favourable environment for the realization of new products and markets and developing innovative enterprises can create a high-tech industrial base, bring the economy to a new and higher growth trajectory, and lead to economic growth.
In the last 12 years, the Bulgarian economy, supported by the EU, has been growing but at a relatively slow pace and is still far from its full potential. The main problem is that long-term competitiveness factors remain stagnant.
Therefore, the Bulgarian government is taking urgent measures to improve the innovation environment in Bulgaria, instructing the Minister of Economy to coordinate innovation policy.
