OFFICIAL START OF THE "EUROPEAN DESTINATIONS OF EXCELLENCE" COMPETITION

The Ministry of Tourism notifies that the competition "Best European Destinations" (European Destinations of Excellence - EDEN) for 2022 has been announced by the European Commission.

The application deadline is June 16, 2021.

European Destinations of Excellence (EDEN) is an initiative of the European Union implemented by the European Commission. It aims to identify and reward less popular destinations that have implemented successful strategies to promote sustainable tourism through good practices in the green transition.

EDEN was first presented by the European Commission in 2007 as an initiative to reward non-traditional, emerging destinations for sustainable tourism in Europe. Until now, it has been held under a different theme every year and based on national competitions.

To date, the initiative has been redesigned and updated in line with the European Green Deal and to contribute to the recovery and sustainability of the tourist destinations affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The competition will be conducted centrally by the European Commission.

The winning destination will be positioned as a pioneer in sustainable tourism, committed to the goals of the European Green Deal.
