The “Bulgarian Industrial Association (BIA) – UNION OF THE BULGARIAN BUSINESS” was founded on 25 April 1980 as a voluntary, non-governmental organisation of the Bulgarian industry.

BIA membership incorporates over 25 000 commercial companies among which 263 out of the top 300 largest companies in Bulgaria. BIA has a well built matrix system involving 107 branch (sector) employers’ organisation (32 of them are members in the respective European sector structures), 27 regional organisations and 104 local bodies, the Central Cooperative Union, National Union of the Worker Producers’ Cooperatives, Bulgarian Industrial Capital Association, Confederation “Union of the Bulgarian Industry”, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, universities, scientific and technical unions.

BIA is a nationally recognized employers’ organisation and participates with its representatives in the work of all national consultative councils, supervisory and management boards of governmental public institutions, among which are: National Council for Tripartite Cooperation, Council for Economic Growth, Council on Taxation Policy, Economic and Social Council, National Social Security Institute, National Health Insurance Fund, etc.

BIA is a member of BUSINESSEUROPE – The Confederation of European Business, the International Organisation of Employers (IOE), and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). The Association has signed agreements for cooperation with over 70 national employers’ and business organisations in the most developed countries in Europe, Asia, America and Africa. BIA actively participates in the work of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), the South East Europe Employers’ Forum (SEEEF), the International Trade Centre (ITC/UNCTAD/WTO) and the World Ecological Centre (WEC) in Washington.

BIA participates in the development and improvement of the regulatory framework; prepares analyses, studies and expertise assessments in the field of the industrial, tax and social policy; cooperates in the registration of intellectual property objects; through its Court of Arbitration BIA intermediates in overcoming and solving disputes between trade subjects, and between trade unions and employers; carries out re-qualification and qualification under a wide scope of nationally approved programmes; organizes business forums, business visits and participation in international exhibitions; develops on-line systems. 

BIA maintains an information system of the Bulgarian enterprises – BEIS (http://beis.bia-bg.com), containing information in Bulgarian and English about more than 35 000 operating Bulgarian enterprises. The profile of each company includes data about the head office, branch, subject of activity, management bodies, shareholders and participation in other companies, financial data and main financial indicators, stock exchange rates, press digest. The information is updated daily with data from the official registers and public sources, as well as with own information provided by the companies enlisted in the BEIS system.

BIA circulates a daily on-line interactive bulletin in Bulgarian and English – “Business Industry Capital”  (http://daily.bia-bg.com), which provides detailed information from the financial and corporate sector in Bulgaria and the world getting to over 25 000 subscribers all over the world.
