“COCA-COLA HELLENIC BULGARIA” PLANT OPERATES WITH 100% GREEN ENERGY
In 2017, Coca-Cola HBC Bulgaria introduced new energy purchasing conditions by increasing the share of renewable energy in the overall mix of energy supply. As a result of this process, the company can now boast of 100% green electricity consumption at its mineral water production plant in Bankya. This is stated in the Sustainable Development Report, which the company has published for the third year.
The information in the report presents the objectives, management and results achieved on the most important topics for the company and stakeholders for 2017. The GRI Standards methodology was followed in the creation of the report in accordance with its “Core” option.

We are proud that the employees of Coca-Cola in Bulgaria make every day their outstanding contribution in this direction,” said Jürg Burkhalter, CEO of Coca-Cola HBC Bulgaria.
The company strives to improve the energy efficiency of manufacturing processes and thereby reduce the energy consumption per liter of beverage produced. By replacing machines with higher energy classes, optimizing processes and switching to cleaner sources, the company managed to achieve a significant improvement in this direction in 2017 - each liter of beverage produced generates 25% less carbon dioxide compared to 2016. Additionally, the company recycles nearly 95% of the waste from the production process, for example - wrapping foil, cartons, obsolete wooden pallets, which are collected separately in its plants.
In its activity, Coca-Cola HBC Bulgaria has long-term commitment to the protection of water resources and in 2017 the company reused 37 million liters of water. An important part of the company’s achievements over the past year are the results in the direction of separate collection and recycling of packaging waste, and for the first time Coca-Cola HBC Bulgaria has successfully recycled more than 95,000 kilograms of glass bottle labels.
In addition to reasonable use of resources, the company regularly identifies and evaluates themes, following good practices according to GRI assessment standards. The report includes an assessment of the business, supply chain, trends in local and international markets and policies, as well as how each of these aspects influences the sustainability of the business in the country.
