CONFERENCE “THE ROLE OF NGOS FOR IMPROVING THE ENERGY POLICY AND THE LEGAL BASIS IN THE FIELD OF ENERGY – CHALLENGES IN SOUTH EAST EUROPE”

We are excited to inform you that the Energy Management Institute with the support of the Ministry of Energy organizes one-day conference entitled “The Role of NGOs for improving the energy policy and the legal basis in the field of energy – challenges in South East Europe”.  The event will take place on 15 March 2018 in Sofia (venue - SOFIA HOTEL BALKAN) and it is part of the official programme of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU.

It is our privilege to announce that the Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of the Energy Union Mr. Maroš Šefčovič has kindly agreed to be the keynote speaker. We are also expecting the Bulgarian minister of energy Mrs. Temenuzka Petkova, the President of the European Consumer Organization Mr. Örjan Brinkman, the Director of the Energy Community Secretariat Mr. Janez Kopac, representatives of non-governmental organizations from more than 10 countries in South-East Europe, members of the Diplomatic Corps, regulators etc.

The key objective of the event is to review to what extent the voice of the non-governmental and civil society organisations is heard in the process of formulating and executing the energy policy at European, regional and national level and what needs to be improved. This is considered particularly up-to-date in the context of the current EU debates in several aspects, which certainly demand more public consensus (e.g. the Energy Union governance, consumer protection, energy market developments and energy poverty, the role of coal, nuclear and renewables in the climate change dimension, the role of new technologies, the transparency issue and the legislative and regulatory procedures etc.). In this context particular focus will be also placed on South East Europe in general and the Western Balkans in concrete, which will be put in the overall European and EU framework.
