SEVEN STUDENTS’ PROJECTS WERE AWARDED IN THE “YOUNG INVENTOR 2016” COMPETITION
“Maybe everybody dreams, but the only people, who feel the joy of life are those, who don’t hesitate to follow their dreams. You obviously are some of those people and you have already felt it. There is no going back! You will have a lot to say to those, who didn’t dare or were lazy to go after their first dream.”
This message addressed to the winners of the “Young Inventor 2016” competition the Chairman of the Managing Board of the BIA and Executive Director of “Overgas Inc.” AD – Mr. Sasho Donchev. The competition is held for a third year in a row and is organized by the “Minu Balkanski” Foundation, with the financial support of “Overgas” and in a partnership with the Bulgarian Industrial Association (BIA).
The competitors focused mainly on the protection of life and health of humanity. The awarded projects are in the area of road safety, dental hygiene, early warning system for natural disasters and storing of personal information. Almost all of the projects contain software components, which shows the interest and opportunities for young inventors in the field of IT.
First place won Dimitur Rangelov from the Sofia Vocational High School of Electronics "John Atanasoff" for his project for a road control system. Second place takes Kameliya Kirilova from the Vocational High School of Veterinary and Agriculture “St. G. Pobedonosets” in Kostinbrod for her project “Charcoal chewing gum for teeth cleansing and whitening without side effects for the enamel”. Third place is for Selin Shemsieva and Martin Nikolaev from Mathematics High School „Baba Tonka” in Ruse for their project for an automatic road safety and speed control system.
Competitors’ projects were evaluated by a jury, which included industrialists and scientists. The winners will receive tools and devices, which help with the further development of their projects. The winners also received copies of “Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!” by the Nobel Physics Prize laureate Richard Feynman and “Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future” by Ashlee Vance.
The goal of this competition is to regenerate the interest of young people in natural science and to show how interesting and perspective it is and also - what a great career opportunity in the era of high technology and intensive communication. This competition discovers young Bulgarian talents in the field of technical and natural science and gives them the opportunity to present to the public their inventions, tools and devices.
