The total consumer trust index dropped by 4.3 points in July 2014 compared to the previous trimester, the National Institute of Statistics reported.

The sub-indices pertaining to opinions of the economic situation in the last year and expectations for the next year decreased by 9 and 6.1 points respectively. Consumer expectations on household finances were also negatively affected compared to the previous trimester.Consumers still believe that prices increased in the last year, but at a slower rate compared to earlier periods.

Expectations are that the inflation rate will continue to rise. Expectations of unemployment are also negative.

Most consumers find the current economic status non-conducive to saving.
