Bread price in Bulgaria will go up, but it is impossible to say how much. No producer can give accurate figures of the predicted price hike, Kolyo Kolev, chief secretary of the Branch Chamber of Industrial Bread Producers and Confectioners in Bulgaria, told the morning program of Bulgaria ON AIR television station.
He added bread would become more expensive, because of the higher prices of public utilities and flour.

According to him it is impossible to say what the average price of a kilogram of high-quality bread should be, because it all depends on the production technology used by a producer.

The consumption of bread and pastry in Bulgaria has been falling for quite a long time and this will complicate the situation further. According to the Food Safety Agency, around 1,800 firms bake bread and about 50 of them are big, while the others and small and medium enterprises, which produce predominantly pastry. The business is very hard up, because the competition is very high, explained Kolev.
