Nearly one-third of the funds are disbursed
"Bulgaria stands a chance to receive more than BGN 4 bn from the EU funds for transport and infrastructure after 2014 and we will strive for this funding," said Transport Minister Ivaylo Moskovski at a meeting with students and lecturers from the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy, quoted by Klassa daily.
There are five key points for the second programming period: development of road and rail infrastructure along the "primary" and "extended" transport network, improvement of the conditions for navigation along the Danube, improvement of intermodality in the transportation of passengers and freight, development of urban transport, modernisation and introduction of innovations in the management of transport and services in the sector.
According to Moskovski, some of the priorities for the next programming period are: continuing the construction of the Sofia - Dragoman railway in order to connect the Serbian border with the port of Burgas, completion of the Struma Motorway in its section of the Kresna -Razlog gorge and the Hemus highway, seeking opportunities for building the Black Sea motorway," posted the lev.bg website.
During the meeting, it became clear that the funds disbursed under Operational Programme Transport exceed BGN 1,1 bn. Contracted funds are already more than BGN 3,6 bn. This money has reached the final beneficiaries who have received more than one-third of the funds under the programme. Projects under this Operational Programme will help the domestic railway transport sector to overcome the crisis and attract investors.
