A GREAT NUMBER OF ENTERPRISES WERE FINED FOR ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION

Experts from the sixteen Regional Inspectorates of Environment and Water (RIEW) investigated 1611 sites and issued 1172 warnings in March for constituted violations to be remedied. 72 deeds and 99 penal provisions were filed, amounting to over 285 000 BGN. 16 sanctions for established environmental damages or pollution exceeding the permissible norms were imposed. A total amount of 84 320.58 BGN has been collected due to these sanctions, including the previous months, announced the Press Center of the Ministry of Environment and Water (MEW).

The control over the compliance with the Water Act stipulations was strengthened last month. Stara Zagora RIEW issued penal provisions to Enel Maritsa Iztok AD amounting at 5 000 BGN for polluting River Sokolitsa, Ruse RIEW fined Orgahim AD 10 000 BGN for exceeding the permissible sewage norms, Haskovo RIEW fined Neochim AD 3 000 BGN for failure of adhering to the emission norms stipulated in the sewage permit, and Pernik RIEW fined Open Coal-mining Mines LTD 1000 BGN.
