A Conference entitled "Low Carbon Energy Economy" organized by BIA was held today, 4 May 2010, at Sheraton Sofia Hotel Balkan

Over 80 representatives of the industry, non-governmental sector, and the media attended the forum. An analysis on the topic prepared by BIA experts was the focal point of the conference. Most participants in the discussion supported BIA's theses, arguments and proposals stipulated in the analysis. It was a common opinion that attaining the European objectives of the climate - energy legislative package, also called the "20-20-20 plan", should not intervene the national objectives for attaining better economy competitiveness and reducing its energy-consuming character.

The Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism, Traicho Traikov, took part in the second part of the discussion by also supporting BIA's proposals directed to the three major groups of problems accompanying the RES implementation. These are the following:

  • Price setting for the RES produced energy
  • Equal treatment (encouragement) of all RES types
  • Encouraging the production of RES energy for private consumption

Minister Traikov announced that the RES Bill shall be put for public discussion within days.  A new energy strategy is being developed and its completion will also depend on the expert help of the business.
