In a letter to Jean-Claude Marcourt, Philippe de Buck outlined BUSINESSEUROPE's priorities for the 25-26 November 2010 Competitiveness Council. He urged the Competitiveness Council to turn the agenda proposed by the Commission communications on the EU's industrial and innovation policies into real actions. While welcoming the renewed attention given to industrial policy, we urge policy-makers to refrain from unnecessary and disproportionate market interventions. The Competitiveness Council should also ensure that more financial resources are devoted to innovation when reforming the EU budget, and should facilitate the participation of European companies in EU research and development programmes. Finally, BUSINESSEUROPE called for reaching a successful final decision in the present negotiations for the setting-up of an EU patent.
