On 9 February 2011, BUSINESSEUROPE organised a breakfast meeting on EU trade policy for the European Parliament SME Intergroup, chaired by MEP Daniel Caspary. The speakers, Matthew Baldwin of DG Trade and Adrian van den Hoven of BUSINESSEUROPE, outlined how EU trade policy can support the internationalisation of SMEs. BUSINESSEUROPE called for progress on trade liberalisation in the context of the WTO Doha Round and bilateral free-trade agreements, but also pointed to some specific concerns for SMEs, for example in the area of customs and export credit. Adrian van den Hoven urged the Commission to consolidate information available to SMEs by mapping existing business services and centres.
