RUSSIA HOPES TO NEGOTIATE BELENE PRICE IN THREE MONTHS - REPORT
Russia expected to finalise negotiations with Bulgaria on the price of the Belene nuclear power project in the next two or three months, Russia's energy minister Sergei Shmatko said as quoted by news agency Prime Tass.
In light of the disaster at Japan's Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant earlier this year, the project needs additional analysis regarding its safety. According the Shmatko, the plant will pass all stress tests required. Earlier, he said that since construction is yet to begin, stress tests will have to be carried out based on the project proposal.
Last week, Russian media reported that Bulgaria had offered Russia to extend the deadline for the negotiations concerning the project. According to the latest annex to the main contract, signed in late March, the parties should come to a decision about the plant's construction by June 30.
