CEZ Bulgaria is appealing to its customers to adopt a prudent approach to energy consumption during the winter so that network overload can be avoided, the company said in a statement released on October 23 2011.

According to statistics, consumption by Bulgarian households and businesses is up to 50 per cent higher than in the rest of Europe, CEZ said.

"Prudent consumption must become ingrained in consumer consciousness. Not only will it help households reduce their bills but, even more importantly, this will have a beneficial effect on efforts to preserve the environment," Peter Dokladal, CEZ regional manager for Bulgaria, said.

At the start of 2011, CEZ signed co-operation agreements with companies making energy-saving products. The European Union has set as a target for its member states to reduce energy consumption by nine per cent by 2017, the electricity supplier said.
