Bulgaria will come up with a decision on the environmental impact assessment (EIA) of the Bourgas-Alexandroupolis oil pipeline within a week, the country's Environment Ministry said.

The deadline for announcing the decision on the report concerning the eco impact of the pipeline expired on October 31 2011, but experts at the ministry have requested a one-week extension to study the assessment in detail because of the significant amount of technical documentation.

The assessment of the project's compliance with EU regulations on Natura 2000-protected sites has already been approved, with some of the pipes to pass through areas included in the network.

The ministry has so far rejected three times the environmental impact assessment. The study is drafted by Trans Balkan Pipeline, the company behind the pipeline project.
