Responding to today’s publication of the EU Fair Mobility Package by the European Commission, BusinessEurope Director General Markus J. Beyrer said:
“We welcome the EU Fair Mobility Package as a positive step towards simpler and more effective labour mobility, including through digitalisation measures such as the proposed European Social Security Pass.
We also welcome the focus on skills portability and will look constructively into the proposed revision of the Professional Qualifications, including the role of Common Training Frameworks. These should be developed in a demand-led, bottom-up way and respond to genuine labour-market needs, focusing on professions where labour and skills shortages hamper growth and employment.
Legal migration can play an important complementary role in helping employers address skills needs and strengthening Europe’s labour market. It is therefore encouraging to see better recognition of third-country qualifications among the priorities in the package.
Finally, the Commission’s support for the European Labour Authority (ELA) to improve access to information should translate into the creation of a helpdesk for employers.”
