Industrial production indices - March 2026

The index of industrial production in March 2026 increased by 5.8% compared to the previous month. The data are preliminary and seasonally adjusted.

Compared to March 2025, a growth of 4.8% was registered in the calendar-adjusted index of industrial production.

Monthly Changes

In March 2026 compared to February 2026, an increase was observed in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply - by 15.6%, and in the manufacturing industry - by 2.5%, while the mining and quarrying industry remained unchanged.

Significant growth in the manufacturing industry was recorded in manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products - by 23.6%, in the repair and installation of machinery and equipment - by 12.2%, in the manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations - by 10.9%, and in the manufacture of wood and of products of wood and cork, except furniture; manufacture of articles of straw and plaiting materials - by 10.3%.

Decreases were registered in the manufacture of wearing apparel - by 8.3% and in the manufacture of other transport equipment - by 8.2%.

Annual Changes

On an annual basis, an increase in industrial production, calculated from calendar-adjusted data, was recorded in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply - by 35.6%, and in the manufacturing industry - by 4.0%, while a decrease was observed in the mining and quarrying industry - by 27.3%.

In the manufacturing industry, significant growth compared to March 2025 was registered in the manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations - by 27.3%, and in the manufacture of tobacco products - by 23.4%.

Declines were recorded in the manufacture of leather and related products - by 24.1% and in the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers - by 17.5%.

Construction production indices - March 2026

In March 2026, the production index in the ‘Construction’ section increased by 0.6% compared to the previous month. The data are preliminary and seasonally adjusted.

The calendar-adjusted data showed a rise of 7.7% in the construction production compared to the same month of 2025.

Monthly changes

In March 2026, compared to the previous month, an increase was observed in the specialized construction activities - by 1.8%, and in the production of civil engineering - by 0.1%. A decrease was seen in the production of building construction - by 0.2%.

Annual changes

In March 2026, compared to the same month of 2025, a rise of the production was registered in the construction of buildings - by 12.6%, in the civil engineering - by 5.7%, and in the specialized construction activities - by 3.9%.

Services production indices - February 2026

In February 2026, the total production index in Services of the business economy[1] increased by 4.6% compared to the previous month. The data are preliminary and seasonally adjusted.

Compared to February 2025, a rise of 6.3% was registered in the calendar-adjusted index according to preliminary data.

[1] Business services include the following sectors from NACE.BG - 2008: H - Transportation and storage, I - Accommodation and food service activities, J - Information and communication, L - Real estate activities, M_STS - Professional, scientific and technical activities (specific grouping under Regulation (EU) 2019/2152), and N - Administrative and support service activities.

Monthly changes

An increase compared to the previous month was reported in the following sectors: ‘Information and communication’ - by 7.9%, ‘Real estate activities’ and ‘Transportation and storage’ - by 4.7% each, ‘Administrative and support service activities’ - by 3.7%, and ‘Professional, scientific and technical activities’ - by 3.4%, while in the ‘Accommodation and food service activities’ sector no change was observed.

Annual changes

On an annual basis, a growth was observed in the following sectors: ‘Professional, scientific and technical activities’ - by 15.5%, ‘Information and communication’ - by 11.7%, ‘Accommodation and food service activities’ and ‘Administrative and support service activities’ - by 5.5% each, and ‘Real estate activities’ - by 2.7%. A decrease was registered in the sector ‘Transportation and storage’ - by 2.5%.
