Trade in goods with the EU Member States - Intrastat, and foreign trade turnover of Bulgaria - preliminary data - December 2025

In 2025, the exports of goods from Bulgaria to the EU decreased by 3.8% in comparison with 2024 and amounted to 53 883.9 million BGN. Main trade partners of Bulgaria were Germany, Romania, Italy, Greece and France, which accounted for 63.8% of the exports to the EU Member States.

In the exports of goods from Bulgaria to the EU, distributed according to the Standard International Trade Classification, the most notable growth was recorded in the section ‘Animal and vegetable oils, fats and waxes’ (43.9%). The most notable fall was reported in the section ‘Miscellaneous manufactured articles’ (14.7%).

In December 2025, the exports to the EU increased by 6.5% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and amounted to 4 268.2 million BGN.

The imports of goods to Bulgaria from the EU in 2025 increased by 4.5% compared to 2024 and amounted to 60 538.5 million BGN (at CIF prices). The largest amounts were reported for the goods imported from Germany, Romania, Greece, Italy and Poland. 

In the imports of goods to Bulgaria from the EU Member States, distributed according to the Standard International Trade Classification, the largest growth was recorded in the section ‘Beverages and tobacco’ (23.1%). The most notable fall was reported in the section ‘Crude materials, inedible (except fuel)‘ (4.5%).

In December 2025, the imports from the EU grew by 7.9% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and reached 5 213.1 million BGN. 

The foreign trade balance of Bulgaria (export FOB - import CIF) with the EU in 2025 was negative and added up to 6 654.6 million BGN.

Trade in goods with third countries - Extrastat - preliminary data - January 2026

In January 2026, the exports of goods from Bulgaria to third countries decreased by 9.0% in comparison with the same month of 2025 and added up to 1 012.6 million EUR. The main trade partners of Bulgaria were Türkiye, the United Kingdom, the United States, Serbia, the Republic of North Macedonia, Ukraine and Algeria, which accounted for 47.4% of the exports to non-EU countries.

In the exports of goods from Bulgaria to third countries, distributed according to the Standard International Trade Classification, the most notable growth was recorded in the section ‘Animal and vegetable oils, fats and waxes’ (175.0%). The most notable fall was reported in the section ‘Mineral fuel, lubricants and related materials’ (72.4%).

The imports of goods to Bulgaria from third countries in January 2026 increased by 5.3% in comparison with January 2025 and added up to 2 044.5 million EUR (at CIF prices). The largest amounts were reported for the goods imported from Türkiye, China, Brazil and Ukraine.

In the imports of goods to Bulgaria from third countries, distributed according to the Standard International Trade Classification, the largest growth was recorded in the section ‘Machinery and transport equipment’ (57.7%). The most notable fall was reported in the section ‘Animal and vegetable oils, fats and waxes’ (46.5%).

The foreign trade balance of Bulgaria (exports FOB - imports CIF) with third countries in January 2026 was negative and added up to 1 031.9 million EUR.

In January 2026, the total value of all the goods exported from Bulgaria amounted to 3 327.0 million EUR, which was 1.4% less than the same month of the previous year.

The total value of all the goods imported into the country In January 2026 amounted to 4 373.0 million EUR (at CIF prices), or 0.1% more than in January 2025.

The total foreign trade balance (exports FOB - imports CIF) was negative In January 2026 and amounted to 1 046.0 million EUR.
