BusinessEurope has welcomed today’s publication by the European Commission of its Digital Omnibus simplification proposal.
BusinessEurope Director General Markus J. Beyrer said:
“The proposed Digital Omnibus is an important signal of the Commission’s recognition that overregulation has been a persistent burden for EU businesses.
It reflects legitimate and long-standing demands from European business owners who want to innovate, grow, and lead globally. It is about democratic responsiveness, not about yielding to external pressure. We urge co-legislators to stay the course and continue with this much-needed simplification agenda.
In particular, it positive to see the flexibility given to the AI Act implementation in the proposal, along with efforts to simplify reporting obligations and provide some legal clarity around GDPR interplay. These measures must be strengthened and fully implemented.
It is also noteworthy that the publication includes a proposal for an EU Business Wallet, which has the potential to enhance secure and efficient business operations, along with a European Data Union Strategy. We will now need to examine both initiatives in detail.
Along with making sure that we deliver on this and other existing Omnibus proposals, it is also crucial that we see a constant stream of similar burden reduction measures over the coming months so that companies see a tangible improvement on the ground.”
