“As early as mid-September, we requested a meeting with the Minister of Finance and the ministry’s team, with whom we have traditionally engaged in long-term dialogue — discussing issues, presenting our proposals. This time, such dialogue was entirely absent. In fact, we saw the budget only late on Monday evening.”
This was stated to BNR by Dobri Mitrev, President of the Bulgarian Industrial Association:

“In the last several national budgets, unfortunately, expenditures have been the problematic part - not revenues. On the contrary, revenue performance, especially from taxes, has been quite good, which means that businesses and Bulgarian citizens are literally responsible and compliant in meeting their obligations under all tax and social security laws.”

“The dividend tax was actually one of the few competitive advantages our tax system had for attracting investments,” Mitrev added in an interview for the “Before All” programme on BNR’s Horizon channel.

“The government is not interested in the opinion of society.”
