Trade in goods with the EU Member States (Intrastat), and foreign trade turnover of Bulgaria (preliminary data - July 2025)

In the period January - July 2025, the exports of goods from Bulgaria to the EU decreased by 6.4% in comparison with the same period of 2024 and amounted to 30 798.0 million BGN. Main trade partners of Bulgaria were Germany, Romania, Italy, Greece and France, which accounted for 64.3% of the exports to the EU Member States.  

In the exports of goods from Bulgaria to the EU, distributed according to the Standard International Trade Classification, the most notable growth was recorded in the section ‘Food and live animals’ (17.4%). The most notable fall was reported in the section ‘Manufactured goods classified chiefly by material’ (21.7%).

In July 2025, the exports to the EU decreased by 21.1% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and amounted to 4 205.5 million BGN.

The imports of goods to Bulgaria from the EU in the period January - July 2025 increased by 2.7% in comparison with the same period of 2024 and amounted to 34 179.3 million BGN (at CIF prices. The largest amounts were reported for the goods imported from Germany, Romania, Greece, Italy and Poland.     

In the imports of goods to Bulgaria from the EU Member States, distributed according to the Standard International Trade Classification, the largest growth was recorded in the section ‘Beverages and tobacco’ (24.6%). The most notable fall was reported in the section ‘Animal and vegetable oils, fats and waxes’ (4.4%).

In July 2025, the imports from the EU grew by 1.5% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and reached 4 929.1 million BGN.

The foreign trade balance of Bulgaria (export FOB - import CIF) with the EU in the period January - July 2025 was negative and added up to 3 381.3 million BGN.

Trade in goods with third countries - Extrastat (preliminary data - August 2025)

In the period January - August 2025, the exports of goods from Bulgaria to third countries decreased by 2.7% in comparison with the same period of 2024 and added up to 20 086.7 million BGN. The main trade partners of Bulgaria were Türkiye, the United States, Serbia, the Republic of North Macedonia, Algeria, China and the United Kingdom, which accounted for 49.7% of the exports to non-EU countries.

In August 2025, the exports of goods from Bulgaria to third countries decreased by 8.1% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and amounted to 2 456.0 million BGN.

In the exports of goods from Bulgaria to third countries, distributed according to the Standard International Trade Classification, the most notable growth was recorded in the section ‘Miscellaneous manufactured articles’ (48.6%). The most notable fall was reported in the section ‘Mineral fuel, lubricants and related materials’ (42.5%).

The imports of goods to Bulgaria from third countries in the period January - August 2025 increased by 3.3% in comparison with the same period of 2024 and added up to 28 168.7 million BGN (at CIF prices). The largest amounts were reported for the goods imported from Türkiye, China, Serbia and Kazakhstan.

In August 2025 the imports of goods to Bulgaria from third countries decreased by 7.0% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and amounted to 3 374.0 million BGN.

In the imports of goods to Bulgaria from third countries, distributed according to the Standard International Trade Classification, the largest growth was recorded in the section ‘Food and live animals’ (26.5%). The most notable fall was reported in the section ‘Animal and vegetable oils, fats and waxes’ (45.8%).

The foreign trade balance of Bulgaria (exports FOB - imports CIF) with third countries in the period January - August 2025 was negative and added up to 8 082.0 million BGN.

In August 2025, the foreign trade balance of Bulgaria (export FOB - import CIF) with third countries was also negative and amounted to 918.0 million BGN.

Trade in goods of Bulgaria with third countries and the EU - total

In the period January - August 2025, the total value of all the goods exported from Bulgaria amounted to 54 925.6 million BGN, which is 5.5% less than the same period of the previous year.

In August 2025, the total exports of goods added up to 6 496.9 million BGN and decreased by 10.2% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year.

The total value of all the goods imported into the country in the period January - August 2025 amounted to 66 566.3 million BGN (at CIF prices), or 2.8% more than the same period of 2024.

In August 2025, the total imports of goods decreased by 2.8% compared to the same month of the previous year and added up to 7 592.3 million BGN.

The total foreign trade balance (exports FOB - imports CIF) was negative in the period January - August 2025 and amounted to 11 640.7 million BGN.

In August 2025, the total foreign trade balance (exports FOB - import CIF) was also negative and added up to 1 095.4 million BGN.
