Has the Agricultural Products Supply Chain Act divided the industry? Some in the sector support the provisions, while others criticize them. The topic was debated in the “Good Morning, Bulgaria” studio by Ivaylo Galabov, Chairman of the Board of the Union of Poultry Breeders in Bulgaria, and Tsvetan Tsekov, Chairman of the Bulgarian Agrarian Chamber.
According to some farmers, the provisions contradict EU regulations, and the law would limit competition and product diversity. At the same time, there is a risk that prices could rise.
“The new law will not raise wholesale prices, but it will make things more difficult for producers, especially smaller ones,” said Ivaylo Galabov.
“This is the first law to regulate relations between producers, end consumers, and intermediaries,” countered Tsvetan Tsekov. In his view, its adoption would shed light on the prices at which Bulgarian producers sell their goods and the prices at which they are offered in retail chains. “This way, we’ll finally understand how many years we have been manipulated,” added the Chairman of the Bulgarian Agrarian Chamber.
