TRADE IN GOODS OF BULGARIA WITH THE EU
In the period January - June 2025, the exports of goods from Bulgaria to the EU decreased by 3.5% in comparison with the same period of 2024 and amounted to 26 592.5 million BGN. Main trade partners of Bulgaria were Germany, Romania, Italy, Greece and France, which accounted for 64.4% of the exports to the EU Member States.
In the exports of goods from Bulgaria to the EU, distributed according to the Standard International Trade Classification, the most notable growth was recorded in the section ‘Food and live animals’ (19.3%). The most notable fall was reported in the section ‘Manufactured goods classified chiefly by material’ (21.0%).
In June 2025, the exports to the EU decreased by 5.2% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and amounted to 4 562.6 million BGN.
The imports of goods to Bulgaria from the EU in the period January - June 2025 increased by 2.9% in comparison with the same period of 2024 and is worth to 29 250.2 million BGN (at CIF prices). The largest amounts were reported for the goods imported from Germany, Romania, Greece, Italy and Poland.
In the imports of goods to Bulgaria from the EU Member States, distributed according to the Standard International Trade Classification, the largest growth was recorded in the section ‘Beverages and tobacco’ (25.2%). The most notable fall was reported in the section ‘Machinery and transport equipment’ (4.5%).
In June 2025, the imports from the EU increased by 7.1% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and reached 4 922.4 million BGN.
The foreign trade balance of Bulgaria (export FOB - import CIF) with the EU in the period January - June 2025 was negative and added up to 2 657.7 million BGN.
BULGARIAN TRADE IN GOODS WITH THIRD COUNTRIES
In the period January - July 2025, the exports of goods from Bulgaria to third countries decreased by 1.9% in comparison with the same period of 2024 and added up to 17 630.7 million BGN. The main trade partners of Bulgaria were Turkey, the United States, Serbia, the Republic of North Macedonia, Algeria, China and the United Kingdom, which accounted for 50.3% of the exports to non-EU countries.
In July 2025, the exports of goods from Bulgaria to third countries increased by 1.0% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and amounted to 2 958.5 million BGN.
In the exports of goods from Bulgaria to third countries, distributed according to the Standard International Trade Classification, the most notable growth was recorded in the section ‘Beverages and tobacco’ (48.8%). The most notable fall was reported in the section ‘Mineral fuel, lubricants and related materials’ (45.4%).
The imports of goods to Bulgaria from third countries in the period January - July 2025 increased by 4.9% in comparison with the same period of 2024 and added up to 24 794.7 million BGN (at CIF prices). The largest amounts were reported for the goods imported from Turkey, China, Serbia and Ukraine.
In July 2025 the imports of goods to Bulgaria from third countries decreased by 3.0% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and amounted to 3 825.7 million BGN.
In the imports of goods to Bulgaria from third countries, distributed according to the Standard International Trade Classification, the largest growth was recorded in the section ‘Food and live animals’ (26.8%). The most notable fall was reported in the section ‘Animal and vegetable oils, fats and waxes’ (40.2%).
The foreign trade balance of Bulgaria (exports FOB - imports CIF) with third countries in the period January - July 2025 was negative and added up to 7 164.0 million BGN.
In July 2025, the foreign trade balance of Bulgaria (export FOB - import CIF) with third countries was also negative and amounted to 867.2 million BGN.
TRADE IN GOODS OF BULGARIA WITH THIRD COUNTRIES AND THE EU - TOTAL
In the period January - July 2025, the total value of all the goods exported from Bulgaria amounted to 48 428.7 million BGN, which is 4.8% less than the same period of the previous year. In July 2025, the total exports of goods added up to 7 164.0 million BGN and decreased by 13.2% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year.
The total foreign trade balance (exports FOB - imports CIF) was negative in the period January - July 2025 and amounted to 10 545.3 million BGN. In July 2025, the total foreign trade balance (exports FOB - import CIF) was also negative and added up to 1 590.8 million BGN.
