Kaufland and Lidl are the first retail chains in our country to introduce machines for accepting used plastic bottles and beverage cans. To incentivize them to recycle more, customers will receive an ecovoucher worth 5 cents for every package returned.

The facilities are located in a total of 15 stores of the two companies in nine cities in the country, including Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Gabrovo, Dobrich, Montana and others. They enable customers of both chains in these cities to easily and quickly return their used beverage packaging to the place where they shop every day, while at the same time contributing to the protection of the environment.

The machines in Kaufland and Lidl accept plastic bottles up to 3 liters made of PET material (marked with the corresponding symbol)* and metal cans. They will not accept plastic bottles of milk and milk products, oil, olive oil and vinegar, as well as bottles and cans that contain liquids or are deformed or contaminated.

The eco-vouchers received against returned bottles can be used for purchases over BGN 10 in the same store where the bottles were returned, up to 90 days after their issue. The collected PET bottles will be recycled in the country, and the obtained material will be used for the production of new plastic products by Bulgarian manufacturers. In this way, the use of plastic is reduced, resources are saved and the life cycle of raw materials is closed.
