Thanks to the partnership between the Bulgarian Industrial Association (BIA) and the KVK Business Challenge, 14 new challenges on topics related to the need for sustainable practices have been published on BIA’s open innovations platform.

The new challenges are:

1. Optimisation of packaging of lengthy building materials - how can a Dutch wholesaler of building materials deliver lengthy building materials at their customers with minimum or no packaging material?

2. Winegum in a paper packaging - how can a dynamic, third generation family business realize more sustainable packaging for licorice and winegum?

3. Sustainable packaging innovation - how can a confectionery company increase recyclability and improve circularity of their Chamallows marshmallows packaging, whilst at the same time maintaining our high food safety and quality standards?

4. Tanker Beer Liner - how can one of the strongest A-brands in the Netherlands make its beer tanker concept more sustainable?

5. Bioplastics - how can an extruded plastic tube manufacturer serving the cosmetic-, food-, pharma- and industrial markets become less dependent on bio-based PE made of sugarcane?

6. Sustainable protective buffers in packaging - how can a global company replace the protective buffers of EPE foam and (virgin) plastics in the packaging of their gaming chairs and desks with more sustainable alternatives?

The BIA Open Innovation Platform connects companies and institutions with startups to solve a specific problem or develop a new solution in a specific area.

We are here to:

  • support business and administration to find new innovative solutions to existing or emerging problems;
  • provide an opportunity for startups to cooperate and partner with large companies;
  • we improve the process of open innovation in Bulgaria;
  • support the better development of the innovation ecosystem.
