The measure is part of an ambitious climate strategy that requires large-scale investments and aims to reduce carbon emissions by more than 80 percent
From March Kaufland Bulgaria (member of BIA) switches entirely to "green" electricity. In all hypermarkets of the chain, in its logistics center and in its administrative office, 100% of electricity produced from renewable energy sources will now be used.
The measure is part of the ambitious climate strategy of Kaufland Bulgaria. It requires large-scale investments and is committed to achieving a specific goal - reducing carbon emissions from the chain's operating activities by over 80 percent by 2030 (compared to 2019). To achieve this, Kaufland Bulgaria is working on a number of key projects such as the transition to "green" energy. To this end, the company has already provided the necessary guarantees of origin, which prove that the energy it uses is from renewable energy sources.
“The step is important not only for us. It is an example of how business can make a very concrete contribution to the fight against climate change,” commented Gergana Dimitrova, Corporate Communications Manager at Kaufland Bulgaria.
Another key measure of Kaufland Bulgaria for climate protection is the deployment of photovoltaics for its own energy needs. This is a fact from the end of last year, for which purpose the chain made an initial investment of over BGN 800,000. The photovoltaic installations are on the roofs of Kaufland in the Bedechka district of Stara Zagora, in the Izgrev residential district in Burgas, in the Breeze district in Varna, as well as in Dupnitsa. Kaufland alone will save about 440 tons of carbon emissions per year.
