“We are committed to reducing emissions to zero net values throughout our value chain by 2040. We will reduce our direct emissions to an absolute minimum and work in partnership with our suppliers to eliminate 90% of our carbon footprint, which is the result of third party actions. Where we cannot completely eliminate emissions, we will mitigate or eliminate them by investing in other climate protection measures.” This is stated in a letter from Coca-Cola HBC Bulgaria to the President of BIA Dobri Mitrev, on the occasion of his election to the post. The letter emphasizes that BIA is a valuable partner with which businesses achieve sustainable goals, promote the target economy and pursue a modern future.
This commitment is the final destination of a journey that Coca-Cola HBC Bulgaria has already begun and for which BIA has given its full support for many years. The plan which the company introduced contains many elements, a few of them being:
- Investment of about 250 million euros in the first five years of the plan - until 2025
- Decarbonizing the company’s own activities: by 2030, it will reduce all emissions by a quarter compared to 2017, and then by more than 50% over the remaining ten years. Coca-Cola HBC Bulgaria will do this by switching to 100% renewable electricity and low-carbon energy sources through continuous improvements and innovations in energy efficiency
- Accelerate the approach to the recycling cycle of packaging by increasing the use of rPET, packagingless solutions and the use of reusable packaging, removal or replacement of plastics in secondary packaging with alternative low carbon materials
- Providing energy efficient and environmentally friendly refrigerated display cases for customers
- Reduction of emissions from agricultural ingredients
- Implementation of the Green Fleet program for the transition to alternative low-carbon and carbon-free vehicles
- Partnership and cooperation with suppliers
The company took the opportunity to once again thank BIA for the time it continues to invest to help it deal with climate and other issues related to the future of our planet, people and business.
