The Council of Ministers adopted a decision to extend the emergency epidemic situation to August 31, 2021.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), as of July 18, 2021, the total number of COVID-19 cases globally is over 190 million, and the total number of deaths exceeds 4 million. Furthermore, the number of new cases reported last week (12-18.07.2021) is around 3.4 million people, increasing by 12% compared to the previous year. Thus, at the current pace of the pandemic, the total number of cases over the next three weeks is probably going to exceed 200 million.

Globally, as of July 20, 2021, Bulgaria ranks 7th in total mortality from COVID-19 and 67th in 14-day mortality. Regarding the age statistics, the incidences are decreasing among all groups. However, in the last few days, we observe an increase in the 14-day incidence among people under 39 and those over 90.

In Bulgaria, as of 18.07.2021, only 18.1% of the subject population had received the first vaccine, and 16.2%  had a completed vaccination course, ranking Bulgaria last among the EU countries / EEA.

It is necessary to maintain the decline in registered morbidity and prepare the health care system and the public health care system for responding to a possible new pandemic wave. In addition, the strict application of health requirements upon entry into the country by the border health control authorities and the introduction of restrictions on access to Bulgaria will help reduce the likelihood of the spread of new options in our country.

The primary anti-epidemic measure in the fight against infectious diseases is vaccine prophylaxis, so it is crucial to improve peoples' awareness among the different ages and social groups about the benefits of vaccination and the opportunities to protect their loved ones.
