The campaign involves a series of projects and options, including new products from recycled material, communication activities, and a campaign to clean up polluted sites.

March 18, 2021, Sofia. "Recycling makes sense" - the motto that Lidl Bulgaria opted for its recently launched information campaign, which aims to promote the reduction of plastics and to encourage recycling. It is no coincidence they announced the campaign on March 18th - the World's Recycling Day. A good date to draw attention to the topic.

Lidl Bulgaria wants to encourage people to reduce their plastics consumption and recycle more by offering recycled products, a series of communication activities, and actions to clean up polluted sites. They launched their first sustainable alternative - the latest household products. Last week, the company introduced home products made from 95 to 100% recycled material. As of today, March 18th, customers will be able to choose from more and more eco-friendly household products.

Some of the new items are umbrellas, chair cushions, and pet beds, etc. The umbrellas are made of 100% recycled material, the chair cushions contain 100% recycled polyester, and the pet bed contains nearly 70% recycled material. Interestingly, creating an umbrella requires an average of 4 recycled plastic bottles, and just 2 plastic bottles are enough for manufacturing chair cushions. The items are certified with the international product standard Global Recycled Standard (GRS) for guaranteed content of recycled materials.

"Each of us can contribute to reducing the amount of plastic that we use in our daily lives. This is the goal we set with this campaign - to inspire our customers and show them that small steps aspire big changes. Lidl Bulgaria has been striving to reduce and recycle plastics for the last four years. We believe that we will find like-minded people in the face of our customers - because recycling and caring for nature makes sense, especially with joint forces," Elitsa Georgieva, Head of Corporate Communications at Lidl Bulgaria shared.

The information campaign is part of the large-scale strategy of Schwarz Gruppe - REset Plastic, which Lidl Bulgaria has been following for nearly four years. Its goal- to avoid and reduce the use of plastics through several measures - plastics reduction and recycling, redesign of brand packaging, plastic waste cleaning and disposal, and innovations.

In pursuance of the REset Plastic strategy, Lidl Bulgaria is working towards two ends - reducing the amount of plastic in the packaging of its brand products by 20% until 2025 and making all of the packagings of its brand products recyclable. The company has adopted several consistent measures to reach its goals. After reducing the weight of the plates for fresh meat, Lidl Bulgaria introduced those with even lower plastic content, made of over 90% recycled material and 100% recyclable. Some of Lidl's W5 brand cleaning products are now packaged in 100% recycled plastic. The company is also working toward reducing the plastic content in the bottled products. Since the beginning of 2020, Lidl Bulgaria stopped selling disposable plastic products. In its non-food range, the chain presented its first sports shoes with a textile part made of 100% recycled plastic, 25% of which is from old plastic bottles collected from beaches and coastal areas.
