The Council of Ministers approved additional transfers in the amount of BGN 16,586,976 from the budgets of the municipalities for financial provision of activities under the National Program “Developing a School STEM Environment”.

The program is aimed at schools with innovative practices and those with the potential to develop innovations in science, digital technology, engineering thinking and mathematics (STEM).

The funds will be used to build training centers in which the spaces will be equipped with a focus on the study and application of competencies in the field of STEM sciences. In addition to the educational field, investments will be made in the creation of educational content, the introduction of innovative teaching methods, the organization and management of school processes.

The Decree approves funds for two activities according to the number of students in the school.

BGN 12,617,955 are provided for the implementation of the approved projects of 45 municipal schools under activity I "Large projects".

Funding for one school can be up to BGN 300,000 and is intended for schools with over 300 students, where centers for young researchers, centers for technologies in the creative industries, centers for digital creators, research, innovation and others will be built.

BGN 3,969,021 are provided to the approved projects of 83 municipal schools under Activity II "Small projects". Any school with up to 300 students can apply with a project of up to BGN 50,000.

It is planned to use the funds to transform small-scale physical spaces - one or two classrooms or separate corners, by building "workshops", research laboratories, classrooms for creative digital creators and others.
