Today, the European Parliament’s Industry, Research and Energy Committee agreed its position on the Cybersecurity Act and signalled its intention to proceed towards opening up negotiations with a strong mandate of 56 to 5 votes.

BusinessEurope Director General Markus J. Beyrer commented:

“We see it as a positive step that the European Parliament supports industry involvement in defining the future of cybersecurity certification. This will aid businesses in widely using certification in Europe as industry can contribute their technical knowledge and experiences with the latest threats.

While legal certainty has been added we are disappointed that the abilities of businesses to self-certify will only be limited. Forcing third party bodies to test the predominant number of digital products and services will not benefit affordable and speedy certification. Europe should not wait. We need to widely counter cyber threats now.”
