“It has now become clear that all Member States need to invest more and more in the digital training to bridge the growing gap between the digitally transforming industries and services and the current educational models. It is important to introduce the Digital Agenda in Europe in order to enable new forms of digital education, to increase the opportunities for young people on the labour market and to bridge the gap in the digital culture between generations.”

This was stated by Executive President Bojidar Danev in his speech to the participants in the Tripartite Social Summit, which took place on the 18th of October 2017 in Brussels, chaired by Donald Tusk (President of the European Council), Jean-Claude Juncker (President of the European Commission) and Jüri Ratas (Prime Minister of Estonia).

“The future of work is in identifying the right skills for new jobs and a better planning and linking the policies on education, training and employment, with a focus on youth employment, skills and competences needed for the 21st century” added Mr. Danev. He also mentioned some of the priorities of the Bulgarian Industrial Association for the coming Bulgarian Presidency in 2018 such as establishing a proper legislation to stimulate the digital economy development and creating new models of interaction between business and education.

The main theme of the Tripartite Social Summit was “Shaping Europe's future: strengthening resilience and promoting economic and social progress for all” with a focus on the opportunities for growth and employment.

Discussions were focused on three areas:

  • the social dimension of Europe
  • progress achieved and ways to improve involvement of social partners in policies and reforms at national level
  • investing in learning in a digital economy and society.

Mr. Danev’s statement was a part of the third subtheme “Investing in learning in a digital economy and society”.
