President of the Bulgarian Industrial Association Bozhidar Danev has announced that despite the difficult conditions for doing business, in the period 2008 - 2012 the number of companies in Bulgaria increased by 11%.

The rise was due mainly to micro enterprises at the expense of small and medium enterprises. During times of economic crisis, the largest increase in the number of companies in the country is observed in the energy sector, thanks to the booming business with renewable energy sources. The second highest growth was marked among companies dealing with agriculture, which is one of the sectors with the greatest potential for growth.

According to Danev, one of the main barriers to investors is political instability, as well as the lack of skilled labor force.
