For more than 10 years, Philip Morris International has invested over $ 6 billion in the research and development of innovative smoke-free products that aim to reduce the harm to adult smokers worldwide. To fulfill its mission, the company engages more than 400 scientific experts, scientists and engineers at its research centers in Switzerland and Singapore.
The company's research on smokeless products, including 10 clinical and 18 non-clinical trials, is solid, and the results of all studies are completely transparent and accessible to the public (www.pmiscience.com). They are featured in more than 340 publications in peer-reviewed journals, including specialist medical journals. And the number of independent studies on smoke-free products is steadily increasing, with 30 studies currently available. At present, the only tobacco heating system licensed for sale on the US market by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is Philip Morris International, after a thorough evaluation and review of all product scientific documentation. Government agencies such as the German Risk Assessment Institute (BfR), Public Health England, the UK Toxic Committee and the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment of the Netherlands have also reviewed scientific evidence, their findings concurring with those of the company for reduced concentrations of harmful and potentially harmful substances when using our smokeless products compared to cigarette smoke.
